The P&O Research Brief

The Prosthetics and Orthotics Research Brief is a podcast series from the British Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BAPO). It was created primarily for prosthetic and orthotic students, apprentices and new graduates as they develop confidence in understanding and applying research. Each episode takes a published research paper and breaks it down into clear, practical insights, helping learners understand not only what the study found, but how the research was conducted, why the methods matter and what the findings might mean in practice.

The series is designed to make research feel accessible rather than intimidating. Episodes explain key terminology, research methods, and clinical concepts in plain language. This series does not critique each paper; rather, it introduces learners to relevant research in an easy-to-understand format.

While the focus is on papers directly relevant to prosthetics and orthotics, the series also includes wider health research, rehabilitation, biomechanics, education, methodology, and service delivery topics when they offer useful lessons for P&O learners. By connecting research evidence to prosthetic and orthotic practice, the podcast aims to help future P&O clinicians become thoughtful practitioners.

Although developed with learners in mind, the series may also support practising clinicians, educators, researchers, and the wider prosthetic and orthotic workforce who want a way to stay engaged with emerging evidence and professional development.
